In 2023, we celebrated CommunityHealth’s 30th anniversary.
OVER THE YEARS
1993
Founded by Dr. Serafino Garella
1999
Moved to our current headquarters on Chicago Avenue
2007
Opened our on-site pharmacy through MedAccess, the first of its kind in the region
2009
Began offering dentistry to patients, including exams, extractions, and root canals
2020
Transitioned to a telehealth model in response to the global pandemic, and began planning to open microsite clinics in the Belmont Cragin (2021) and Little Village (2022) neighborhoods
2023
CommunityHealth is part of a coalition of organizations and individual volunteers working to address the influx of asylum seekers to Chicago

Microsite Updates
Originally developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our microsite model has now become a key resource in CommunityHealth’s response to the migrant crisis. With asylum seekers dispersed broadly throughout the city, CommunityHealth has reduced the distance our new patients must travel to receive care. By distributing CTA passes and transportation directions specific to each precinct and the corresponding closest CommunityHealth location, we worked to ensure that our new neighbors have access to convenient, high-quality health care.
